Back in July, Netflix confirmed the rumors that Friends would be leaving the streaming platform. In a nostalgic tweet referencing the beloved ’90s sitcom episode titles, Netflix revealed the show would depart sometime in 2020. “The One Where We Have To Say Goodbye,” the tweet begins “We’re sorry to see Friends go to Warner’s streaming service at the beginning of 2020 (in The US). Thanks for the memories, gang.”
On Tuesday (December 3), however, Friends’ official departure was revealed and it’s so much sooner than fans anticipated. As of January 1, 2020, Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Phoebe, Ross and Joey will no longer have a home on Netflix. The streaming platform has officially updated the “availability’ section on Friends’ landing page.
One thing to look forward to, though, is the reported Friends reunion special that is expected to air on HBOMax. Little is known about the unscripted project, but the entire original cast is expected to participate.
