But Troye Sivan is quick to welcome him back when rapper acknowledges he’s “gay again.”
Lil Nas X trolled his Twitter followers earlier Wednesday (April 1) for an April Fools’ Day tease about actually being straight — which didn’t last long.
The 20-year-old rapper claimed that his coming out on June 30 last year — the final day of Pride Month — was part of an elaborate gag about his heterosexuality. “I was never gay. I said it to build up fuel for aprils fools day. Ha got u guys,” he tweeted in the wee hours of the playful holiday.
Fellow rapper Ka5sh jokingly commended Lil Nas X by replying, “Coming out as straight is so brave.”
The “Old Town Road” hitmaker sighed how “somebody has to take a stand and lead the other straight people afraid to be themselves,” before asking, “where the h–s at” in a subsequent tweet. Yet within 13 minutes, the gig was already up and Lil Nas X reassured his fans, “okay i’m gay again.”
Pop star Troye Sivan welcomed him back into the LGBTQ+ community with a simple “welcome back” message and open arms — or at least the emoji of open arms, in this age of social distancing.
Back in September, the young Billboard Hot 100 record-holder explained on HBO’s Uninterrupted why he chose to come out during his historic 19-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. “If you’re doing this while you’re at the top, you know that it’s for real,” he said at the time. “It’s showing that it doesn’t really matter, I guess.”
