After much anticipation and weeks of Twitter beef, Bow Wow and Soulja Boy will face off for real this Saturday (June 26) at 8 p.m. ET for the latest installment of Verzuz.
Now in its second season, the live rap battle show was created by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz during the pandemic as a way of supplementing live performances. Ashanti and Keyshia Cole, Jeezy and Gucci Mane, and E-40 and Too Short have all battled it out on Verzuz.
Soulja Boy wasted no time trolling Bow Wow in the buildup to the show. After the two traded jabs back and forth on social media — “Have you seen your hairline lately,” Bow Wow said in a particularly brutal tweet — the “Crank That” rapper took it as far as mocking Bow Wow for his famous plane meme. In 2017, Bow Wow posted a picture of the private jet he was supposedly boarding, only for someone else to post on Snapchat that the “Like You” rapper was actually sitting a few seats over on a commercial airline.
Soulja Boy simply posted the four-year-old (Bow Wow tried to pass it off as happening six years ago) photos on Instagram without a caption, then said this on Twitter Monday: “It’s ok bow wow because of me u get to fly private for real for verzuz u don’t gotta cap no more wit the challenge and commercial spirit flights.”
Despite the back-and-forth trolling, the artists have actually been friends for years. No matter what gets said, they’ve made it clear that it’s all in good fun.
“Yo @souljaboy years later we still doing what we been doing! U putting out new hits. Im back in the box office #Fast9 hit theaters TODAY! What more could we ask for. Celebration tomorrow! Lets go.” Bow Wow tweeted Friday.
“4sho it’s been years and we still rocking out,” Soulja Boy replied. “Let’s have fun and make history. This for all our fans that been with us since day one through everything”
To see if the plane incident gets mentioned in a rap verse, tune in to Verzuz Saturday, June 26, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on VerzuzTV’s Instagram Live, or stream the battle with Triller or the FITE app.
