Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and producer Greg Kurstin have shared a delightful cover of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” for the second night of their eight-song “Hanukkah Sessions.”
On Friday (Dec. 11), the duo shared a video of themselves recording the 2015 hit, with Grohl sitting at the drums and delivering the vocals, while Kurstin stands behind the keyboards. The clip also features the Foo Fighters frontman holding a menorah while hilariously recreating Drake’s signature moves from the “Hotline Bling” video.
“You might be surprised to learn that this superstar is… Canadian,” Grohl and Kurstin captioned the video on YouTube. “He’s never hidden the fact that he was M.O.T. … so a generation of Jewish parents could tell their kids ‘if Drake took the time to study for HIS Bar Mitzvah, you can too.’ Ladies and gentlemen…challah at your boy….DRAKE!”
Grohl, who is not Jewish, and Kurstin, who is Jewish, previously announced they would be celebrating Hanukkah this year by recording eight songs by famous Jewish artists. The pair launched the series on Thursday with a rendition of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage.”
“With all the mishegas of 2020, @GregKurstin and I were kibbitzing about how we could make Hannukah extra-special this year. Festival of Lights?! How about a festival of tasty LICKS! So hold on to your tuchuses… We’ve got something special coming for your shayna punims. L’chaim!!” Grohl wrote in announcing the project.
The weekend’s offerings also included a cover of Mountain’s “Mississippi Queen” and Peaches’ raunchy “F–k The Pain Away.”
