She got some help from Lee Suhyun of AKMU and SHINee’s Onew.
BLACKPINK member Rosé’s cover song hot streak continued this week when the K-pop superstar returned to the seaside set of the South Korean variety show Sea of Hope for a moving cover of Alicia Keys’ smash 2003 ballad “If I Ain’t Got You.” Joined by SHINEE member Onew and Lee Suhyun of AKMU, Rosé sat off to the side studying lyrics on her phone while her fellow K-pop stars took center stage.
Suhyun kicked things off with a feathery run through the opening verse of the song from Keys’ second album, 2003’s The Diary of Alicia Keys. And then it was Rosé’s turn, and she didn’t disappoint, as her crystaline voice sparkled like the lights in the distance. “Some people search for a fountain/ Promises forever young/ Some people need three dozen roses/ And that’s the only way to prove you love them” she sang over a spare piano groove.
The performance ended with Onew hitting a few high notes as the trio smiled at each other. He wasn’t done, though, as the SHINee member was back on stage for an encore, joining Rosé for a duet on Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat’s 2009 track “Lucky.” Their voices joined in sweet, sweet harmony on the song’s swaying chorus, “Lucky I’m in love with my best friend/ Lucky to have been where I have been/ Lucky to be coming home again.”
The covers came after Rosé recently got some love from John Mayer after her cover of his Continuum track “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” and then doubled-down with an acoustic take on Paramore’s “The Only Exception.”
