Questlove prompts a rare response from HOV
JAY-Z has revealed his true feelings regarding his 1997 album In My Lifetime, Vol. 1. The iconic rapper rarely interacts on social media, but he took to Twitter on Sunday, admitting that the album still “haunts him.”
Hov initially responded to a tweet made by Questlove, who quoted a “hot take” from a JAY-Z fan. The tweet read: “Our main argument is his hate for Vol 1. He is embarrassed for trying to make a monster & not putting numbers up. But ALOT of this LP contains his best moments.” Questlove facetiously added “Fight me @SC.”

In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 is JAY-Z’s second studio album, which was released nearly 25 years ago. Hov responded to Questlove’s tweet by saying “agreed. More so, I know what could have been, so it haunts me … streets is watching was the first song made!” Perhaps surprised that JAY-Z himself responded, Questlove followed up with “Uh can I make this tweet an NFT?”

According to Complex, this isn’t the first time Hov shared that In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 wasn’t his favorite body of work. In 2013, JAY-Z ranked his 12-project discography at the time, and listed the album as number seven. It was ranked behind Reasonable Doubt, The Blueprint, The Black Album, Vol. 2…Hard Knock Life, American Gangster, and Magna Carta Holy Grail.
