Coldplay and BTS gave their fans yet another look into the making of their Billboard Hot 100-topping hit “My Universe” on Thursday (Oct. 7) — this time, by sharing a behind-the-scenes clip from the video.
The intergalactic video for “My Universe” required the use of multiple green screens and to bring the special effects — which includes holographic versions of BTS and Coldplay, dystopian and industrial backdrops, CGI aliens and more — to life. The video shows that BTS and Coldplay filmed many of their scenes separately, and were brought together in the video’s joint scenes through visual effects.
BTS’ RM briefly spoke about the process of how the group made the song with Coldplay in the behind-the-scenes clip, sharing that frontman Chris Martin joined him and the other BTS member in South Korea so the song could come to life. “Chris made this song in many cities. He did come to Seoul like two months ago, three months ago and recorded this, all the gang and our vocal parts together,” the rapper said. “The overall story of this video will totally convey and deliver the vibe and message of the song.”
“My Universe” has become a major success for the groups: The collaboration hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the sixth Hot 100 No. 1 for BTS in two years, while the song marked Coldplay’s second chart-topping entry after 2008’s “Viva La Vida.” “My Universe” also debuted at Nos. 38 and 42 on the Alternative Airplay and Rock & Alternative Airplay surveys dated Oct. 2.
