Clearly no one is interested in listening to Chris Crocker, because when it comes to churning out documentaries, no one can seem to “leave Britney Alone.” Yes, we’re talking about Britney Spears of course, and the latest streamer to hop on the conservatorship referencing documentary train — Netflix.
Confirming the rumors they’d been working on something on Tuesday, Netflix revealed an 18-second teaser of the doc titled Britney vs Spears, along with a message that a full trailer will debut the very next day. The short clip features a voicemail left by Spears to a lawyer at 12:29 a.m. on Jan. 21, 2009. “Hi, my name is Britney Spears,” she is heard saying. “I called you earlier. I’m calling again because I just wanted to make sure that during the process of eliminating the conservatorship…”
The preview suggests, what we all already know, that Britney has been trying to get out of her conservatorship for more than a decade. But as fans of the superstar know, it wasn’t until this month that Britney’s desires came to fruition when her father Jamie Spears finally submitted a petition to end the conservatorship.
As promised, the next day arrived and so did the full trailer, plus it’s premiere date, September 28. Check it out below.
Directed by Erin Lee Carr, the project will undoubtedly focus on the conservatorship, however any other details about it have remained tight lipped. That said, while nothing has been officially confirmed, the doc is said to “center around Spears’ highly-unusual conservatorship and will feature key figures in Spears’ orbit, according to Variety. It is unclear, though highly unlikely that Spears, herself, will appear in the project, given how closely guarded she has been from media opportunities throughout the course of her conservatorship.”
