BTS is doing more than giving fans “Permission to Dance” — they’re challenging ARMY to hit the dancefloor! Just hours after dropping their latest song and video on Friday (July 9), the septet invited everyone to show off their moves.
“#PermissiontoDance challenge only on @YouTube,” the group tweeted via one of their official accounts. (The challenge sounds a little more poetic in the Korean text in the tweet, which translates to: “Are you ready to immerse yourself in the rhythm of your heart?”) In the accompanying video, BTS reveals the moves they want to see people groove to. And of course, they’re straight from the visual for “Permission to Dance,” which was co-written by Ed Sheeran and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid, and is included on the “Butter” CD single.
In the 15-second challenge clip, the camera briefly focuses on each individual member of the group, showing a closer look at the moves as the chorus plays. It ends with the hashtag for the challenge. For ARMY members who might need a little more guidance, RM, Jin, J-Hope, V, Jung Kook, Jimin, and Suga do the same dance in what appears to be an extra clip after the conclusion of the official music video.
Though the moves are relatively simple (especially for a group well-versed in nailing choreography), BTS is giving ARMY some time to practice and perfect their dancing. Per the group’s tweet, the “Permission to Dance” challenge officially kicks off on July 23.
Watch the challenge and music videos below, and as BTS advises in their new song, “just keep the right vibe” and “let’s do it right”!
