Miley Cyrus is wishing “all the moms out there” a very Happy Mother’s Day.
The 28-year-old superstar singer opened Saturday Night Live on May 8 with a cover of her godmother Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” while SNL cast members appeared alongside their moms in a comical tribute to the special day.
During the song, SNL‘s Bowen Yang embraced his mother, who kissed him and then rubbed Purell on his cheek, Pete Davidson’s mom joked about being up until 6 a.m. “playing madame with Chalamet,” and Aidy Bryant’s mother plugged the final season of her daughter’s Hulu series Shrill.
Cyrus ended the performance by inviting the cast members and their moms onto the stage, including her own mother, Tish Cyrus. The singer also wished a Happy Mother’s Day to her godmother Parton.
Later in the Elon Musk-hosted episode, Cyrus performed alongside 17-year-old Australian sensation The Kid LAROI in a chilled-out duet of the rapper’s breakthrough single “Without You.” For her final song, Cyrus passionately deliver the title track of her new rock-themed album, Plastic Hearts. Wearing a long sequence and feathery dress, the singer impressively belted out the track while backed by a large band with a horn section.
An SNL vet, Cyrus last appeared on the long-running NBC sketch comedy show in April 2020 as a surprise musical guest during an at-home episode amid the coronavirus pandemic. Over the years, she has also hosted the program on numerous occasions, starting in 2011. The singer later pulled double-duty as both host and musical performer in 2013 and 2015.
