Kelly Clarkson Goes Big For Soaring Coldplay ‘Yellow’ Cover on Kellyoke

Kelly Clarkson went for those big arena vibes on Friday (April 30) with her soaring cover of Coldplay’s breakthrough 2000 hit “Yellow.” The latest Kellyoke segment swung for the stars with the dramatic sweep of Coldplay’s signature single melting like putty in Clarkson’s capable hands.

With yellow and green spotlights throwing shapes across the stage, Clarkson powered into the second half of the arrangement, hitting a big note before her band Y’all brought it back down and the singer landed the plane with her patented style and grace.

“Yellow,” which appeared on Coldplay’s 2000 debut album, Parachutes, broke the band around the world, peaking at No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in May 2001. Clarkson has been mixing it up on Kellyoke as of late, dipping into some reggae vibes for her take on Adele’s “Send My Love (To Your New Lover),” taking on Elvis’ “Burning Love” and posting a sassy cover of Maren Morris’ “Rich,” as well as covers of Tate McCrae and Lorrie Morgan.

Clarkson’s cover was well-timed, as Coldplay announced that they’ll be dropping their new single, “Higher Power,” on May 7.
