Dua Lipa Lays Out ‘New Rules’ for Pandemic Dating on ‘Corden’

Dua Lipa’s got some new “New Rules.” On Thursday night (Sept. 17), the pop star stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden to deliver a riotous and educational update on her breakout hit for how to navigate dating during the coronavirus pandemic.

Kicking things off with a re-write of “Don’t Stop Now,” Lipa and the late-night host traded line for line about Zoom dates, wearing masks and taking your temperature before jumping into the pop star’s hilariously updated rules.

“One, get in the zone/ No doing edibles at home alone/ Two, stalk their Instagram/ Gotta background check if you wanna slam/ Three, up your waxing game/ No one’s seen you naked since February/ And if you hate it off/ Watch out if they start to cough/ I’ve got new rules for dating/ Six feet apart, no mating/ Masks can be irritating/ No more procrastinating/ These are the rules for dating,” she crooned with Corden as her hype man, flanked by masked dancers in an empty club.

The spoof isn’t the only remixing Lipa has done during the pandemic, either. At the end of August, she released Club Future Nostalgia, a remix album of her studio set from earlier this year.

Featuring production by The Blessed Madonna, the dance-ready LP included collaborations with the likes of Madonna and Missy Elliott (“Levitating”) and Gwen Stefani (“Physical”), as well as a remixed version of “Kiss and Make Up,” her 2017 collab with Blackpink.

The album promptly peaked at No. 1 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart (dated Sept. 11), while also entering the Billboard 200 at No. 28.
