Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan” single off her Billboard 200 No. 1 album Folklore matches the LP’s top rank by debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week (dated Aug. 8).
Swift is the first artist ever in Billboard chart history to simultaneously launch straight to the No. 1 spots on the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 tallies. And just like an old cardigan, the Swifties couldn’t stop calling her their favorite artist. But one fan noted the new No. 1 song as something more than just a melody and lyrics.
“Cardigan by Taylor Swift isn’t just a song. it’s a lifestyle, a reason to breathe, an escape from this cruel world filled by thieves,” they wrote. “It’s art, the first gift you open on Christmas, a hug from a loved one, it’s everything you ever wanted, it’s everything you need.”
And another fan came more than prepared for the celebration: He baked her a cake to commemorate her dual success, with a painstaking hand-painted frosting design of the singer-songwriter standing in the woods.
Update (Aug. 4): Swift saw the cake and applauded the Swiftie’s efforts! “WOW this is incredible!! Thank you so much for making this,” she wrote. “I also saw your Instagram and your art is phenomenal!”
