Days since worldwide protests have erupted in the wake of George Floyd‘s death, Beyoncé has shared some words of encouragement with the activists on the streets via Instagram.
“The world came together for George Floyd. We know there is a long road ahead,” the pop titan, 38, captioned an aerial shot of the Minneapolis, Minnesota protest, where Floyd was killed by former police officer Derek Chauvin. “Let’s remain aligned and focused in our call for real justice.”
Bey’s post arrived the same day it was announced that all of the officers have been charged for their involvement in Floyd’s death. Additionally, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison upgraded charges against Chauvin to second-degree murder and manslaughter. He was previously charged with third degree murder.
Meanwhile, the chart-topper’s mother, Tina Knowles, took to Instagram to celebrate the “victory” of justice. “To all the people who played a part in this victory. Whether you were physically on the front lines protesting. Getting shot by rubber bullets and tear gas, shouting at the top of your lungs. Or you joined a peaceful protest… Thank you to All who Contributed to the outcome which was successful, to get these guys at least arrested and charged,” she wrote in a post. “Now we have the task ahead of us to get them convicted. We must have the same diligence and tenacity to get this done, so thank you!”
