Demi Lovato honored Breonna Taylor’s life with a passionate tribute.
With civil unrest and protests taking over the globe following the fatal arrest of George Floyd, the “I Love Me” singer-songwriter made it a point to also pay respects to Taylor, who would have celebrated her 27th birthday this Friday (June 5).
For those who don’t know, Taylor was a 26-year-old Black woman who was fatally shot by cops who broke into her home in Louisville, Kentucky, back on March 13. Three detectives wearing plainclothes entered her apartment to serve a “no-knock warrant,” leading cops and Taylor’s boyfriend to exchange gunfire that resulted in Taylor being shot eight times.
“It’s Breonna Taylor’s birthday this Friday. She was an EMT on the frontlines during corona,” Lovato tweeted with an illustration of Taylor. “Around midnight on March 13th police broke down her door and shot her 8 times, no evidence of a crime was uncovered. #birthdayforbreonna #justiceforbreonnataylor.”
The “Skyscraper” musician continued her tribute to Taylor on Instagram, writing, “Her favorite colors were blue and purple @iamkevingates was one of her favorite artists. … The sole crime was the murder of Breonna Taylor. Her crime being asleep in her own home.”
Lovato added: “@battymamzelle thought of a great way to honor Breonna’s birthday, send cards to the attorney general. The most underserved demographic in America is black women, we cannot allow them to forget Breonna. #birthdayforbreaonna #justiceforbreonnataylor.”
