Taylor Swift gave one young fan the surprise of her life on Tuesday (May 12) as a thank you for cheering up postal workers amid the global coronavirus pandemic.
Emerson Weber, an 11-year-old Swiftie from Sioux Falls, S.D., has spent the past few weeks of her quarantine writing letters back and forth with mail carriers hard at work delivering mail across the U.S. It all started with Weber writing one letter to thank her own postman, and after it was shared in an internal U.S. Postal Service newsletter, mail began pouring in for the fifth grader, instantly creating a wide network of postal service pen pals around the country.
One of the topics Weber connects with many of her pen pals about is their shared love of Swift’s music, and when the news reached the superstar, she decided to send the 11-year-old a parcel of her own.
“The past couple days have been beyond our wildest dreams, but today was a fairytale. I’m not sure I can fully capture what we just experienced, but I’ll do my best…ready for it?” Weber’s father tweeted before explaining that, to his daughter’s surprise, a care package from Swift had landed on the family’s doorstep.
Inside the box, the singer included a handwritten letter to Weber (which was in an envelope decorated with a watercolor painting and sealed with her monogram), a pair of Lover shirts, and a personalized “13” wax seal to help take the Swiftie’s letter-writing to a new level.
“She was touched… honored… happy… to hear about Emerson mentioning her & her music in her letters. But, she found it more important that she ‘writes letters to people who don’t expect a thank you,'” Weber’s father tweeted about her sweet exchange with the pop star. “When I say she thought of everything – I mean it.”
This isn’t the first time Swift has done some major good during the coronavirus pandemic. In recent months, she’s quietly sent personal stimulus checks to multiple fans who’ve fallen on hard times because of the crisis, and also helped raise money for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund by performing Lover album cut “Soon You’ll Get Better” for the One World: Together at Home TV concert special.
