Actor Kevin Bacon is using the widely popular game ‘Six Degrees from Kevin Bacon’ to help launch a social media campaign and encourage people around the world to share who they are staying home for amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The game has been played for years and is based on the concept that all people are six or fewer acquaintance links apart. Movie lovers challenge others to find a link path between a small unknown actor and Kevin Bacon. Why he became the focal point is unknown, but that is how most continue to play the game.
Anyway, Bacon is using this concept that all people are only six degrees away from one another to help promote social distancing.
On Instagram, Bacon explains his new campaign by saying he is staying home and everyone else should too because that is the only way to slow the spread of the virus. He goes into more detail saying, “Because the contact that you make with someone, who makes contact with someone else, that maybe what makes somebody’s mom or grandpa or wife sick.”
He tells his followers that everyone in their life has someone worth staying home, someone they want to protect and make sure does not get sick.
He then pulls out a sign that reads “#IStayHomeFor Kyra Sedgwick,” meaning his wife.
Bacon ends the post by asking his followers to take a video or photo of themselves with a similar sign explaining who they are staying home for and tagging 6 other friends to participate. His goal is since everyone is connected by various degrees that they will work together to keep each other safe and spread the word.
