Taylor Swift Sends a ‘Massive Hug’ to Nikki Glaser, Accepts Apology for ‘Miss Americana’ Comments

Taylor Swift has warmly accepted Nikki Glaser’s sincere apology for the comments she made in an interview featured in Swift’s new Netflix documentary Miss Americana.

The doc — which hit the streaming service on Friday (Jan. 31) after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival — includes footage from numerous interviews and television segments that take aim at Swift over the course of her career. In one of those conversations, Glaser makes a barbed comment about Swift’s weight (“She’s too skinny!”) and her “model friends,” and the clip even made it into the Miss Americana trailer.

Now that the movie is out, Glaser has taken to Instagram to apologize to Swift and explain why this is such an “insanely ironic” situation, considering how much she adores Swift and her music. (“The Man,” off 2019’s Lover, is one of the inspirations behind Glaser’s current comedy routine.)

“This quote should be used as an example of ‘projection’ in PSYCH101 textbooks,” she writes alongside a photo of herself in a well-worn Swift tee. “If you’re familiar with my ‘work’ at all, you know I talk openly about battling some kind of eating disorder for the past 17 years. I was probably ‘feeling fat’ that day and was jealous. Also, I’ve had people say the same shit about me being too skinny before and know how terrible it feels to hear that when you’re struggling. And I was only bothered by her model friends because I’d like to be her friend and I’m not a model. I really have no need to post this other than to apologize to someone who seriously means SO much to me.”

She goes on to say that she hopes her apology reaches Swift, and to be Swift’s friend one day. Swift soon came calling (or commenting, technically): she graciously accepted Glaser’s apology and referred back to the heart of Miss Americana.

“One of the major themes about the doc is that we have the ability to change our opinions over time, to grow, to learn about ourselves,” she responded. “I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve struggled with some of the same things I’ve struggled with. Sending a massive hug.”
