John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John have a simple message for their hopelessly devoted fans: Grease will always be the word.
The former on-screen flames dusted off their leather jackets over the weekend to celebrate Grease, the 1978 musical that solidified their permanent places in the pop culture pantheon. At the opening event of their Meet n’ Grease tour in West Palm Beach, Fla. on Friday (Dec. 13), Newton-John and Travolta appeared to be simply elated to be revisiting the glory days of Danny and Sandy.
Newton-John shared a photo of the two walking hand-in-hand, and she was wearing the buttercup yellow circle skirt and cardigan ensemble that Sandy did on her first day of school at Rydell High in the film.
“First time in costume since we made the movie!” she wrote on Instagram. Travolta was just as enthusiastic across social media, and shared several clips showing the massive, enthusiastic crowds, along with a video of him and Newton-John strolling out onto the stage to greet their fans.
“We had such a good time watching you have a good time!” Newton-John breathlessly told the audience after the screening of Grease. “It’s so exciting, because this is the very first time that John and I have been together at the sing-along.”
